In Chinese culture the number 8 is a lucky number. So the opening ceremonies took place on this lucky day to kick off the Olympic Games at the National Stadium in Beijing.
China soared on the world stage with a spectacular show, massive fireworks , and the kind of incredible spectacle expected from a super power!
